Polypla a company which makes swimming pools among others things, sees a great challenge in designing and building the ‘Polar Ice Ride sledge. Because of their enormous experience with plastics, I'm extremely happy with Polypla as a sponsor. The first drawing(s) are expected soon!

PIR Classic tyre

Just ordered two new classic tires.
After getting them a retread by www.reifen-immler.de and fit them with studs from best-grip.com they should be ready for the polar ice!
For the rear I use a 700-16 which is 78 centimetre (30.5 inch) in diameter.
For the front I use a 550-17 which is 71,5 centimetre (28 inch) in diameter.

The Polar Ice Ride tires are mounted on the rims by Motor Service Vierlingsbeek.

PIR Extended front fork

One front fork is extended with 10cm/4inches. When both forks are ready I can lower them to fit the huge front wheel.
The extension looks simple, but isn’t because it replaces the cap bolt which holds the springs preload adjuster and rebound adjuster.

PIR Tread rear tyre

At Reifen-Immler they'll put the Polar Ice Ride Tread on the classic car tires that I’m going to use on the R1. The Cross 1 pattern - for the rear tire - will be used in its full width. From the Cross 3 pattern - for the front tire - the outside row of nobs will be cut off. An approximately 16 cm / 6-inch-wide tread will remain.

My bed will be on top of the compartment which will hold 24 jerrycans of fuel, 10 litres each.

The 24 jerry cans - holding 240 litre of fuel – like they will be positioned under my bed inside the sled.
In total I will carry about 300 litres. Jerrycans sponsored by Jabo Landbouw Technische Handel in Maashees.

The construction of the sled at Vemewa is ready.
Now Polypla can start mounting a skin from Lexan.
The wheels - which we'll mount later - are for the trip down to Key West, Florida once I leave the polar ice.

Motorketting the company which is going to make the rear sprocket checked what maximum size sprocket will fit.
It turned out to be 80 tooth!

After finishing the polar ice stretch the journey continues overland towards Key West, Florida. Therefore, the rear of the sled will be fitted with an axle, wheels, tires and a brake rotor from a kart. At Vemewa they are building an R1 break calliper on and also the connection pieces for the axle to go with the sled.

An aggregate will deliver the 220V power.

PIR Putoline Polar oil

For this challenge Putoline specially developed the 4T POLAR.
This oil is still liquid at -51ºC / 60ºF, while regular oil has a pour point of approx. -25ºC / -13ºC.

PIR Control panel heated clothing

Brandsma makes the cable harness for the sled and the necessary wires on the R1.
They also made this control panel holding 6 switches for the heated clothing.
The specially made curly cable goes into my Lookwell polar overall where it will be connected to the Klan clothing.

Ride-On Motortours supplied a 220V-100W wire which, after winding around the carburetors will preheat them.

Electrical engineers of Brandsma B.V. fitted the sledge with a wire harness and LED lighting.
The R1 got an extra Xenon lighting, electrical modifications and a central regulating unit for the electrical heated clothing and helmet.
